​ About us: The Madison County Council of Governments (MCCOG) is the regional planning entity for the Anderson Metropolitan Area, which includes all of Madison County, Indiana, Fortville, Indiana (northwest Hancock County), and Daleville, Indiana (West-Central Delaware County). MCCOG is responsible for the federally designated transportation planning responsibilities, as well as comprehensively coordinating local governments in the metropolitan area.

The position: The Madison County Council of Governments (MCCOG) is accepting applications for a Senior Transportation Planner/ Senior Transportation Planning Analyst who will support the transportation systems planning, analysis, and forecasting activities of the Anderson Metropolitan Planning Area. Support will be provided through the use of travel demand forecasting, development and update of transportation planning tools, analysis of transportation data including mobility and safety data, and analysis of a wide variety of transportation data sources. MCCOG may require travel within the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area, as well as the Anderson metropolitan area for business purposes. Additionally, MCCOG may require travel within the nation for various training and conference opportunities to increase incumbent’s knowledge and skill base. MCCOG will reimburse for expenses while traveling for business.

Position open until filled, initial review of candidates will take place 3 weeks after posting.
Job responsibilities:
  • Develop, apply, and update regional travel demand models
  • Prepare land-use and travel demand forecasts, as well as using other tools to support comprehensive,
    regional, corridor planning activities
  • Develop and update regional crash analysis system, including implementation of crash network screening
    in GIS
  • Analyze various transportation datasets
  • Coordinate and work with local planning agency stakeholders
  • Oversee project level work, including other staff, as necessary ​

Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree in planning, engineering, geography, statistics, data science, or related field and 3 years of experience.
OR
A masters degree in planning, engineering, geography, statistics, data science, or related field and 1 year of experience.


Highly desired:
  • Experience working with travel demand models, and complex transportation data
  • Experience working with large vehicle crash data sources
  • Experience communicating complex data analysis to those who may not have the same technical experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve project goals.
  • ​Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Knowledge of advanced 4-step regional transportation modeling practice
  • Understanding of travel behavior
  • Familiarity with land-use modeling platforms
  • Proficiency with TransCAD travel demand model software
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, and/or other GIS platforms
  • Proficiency in GISDK, R, SAS, Python, and/or other structured program language
  • Ability to conduct data analysis
  • Experience working on technical planning projects independently or with teams
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team
  • Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and execute work assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills
