Salary:$63,485 - $73,928 annually
Under general direction of the City Manager or his designee, the Director of Development Services oversees and manages the Planning and Zoning, Permits, Building Inspections and Code Enforcement departments for the City of Athens. This position may also serve the Building Official.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or a closely related field; and other related coursework and training that demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and practices in this profession. Five years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal development services. Certification as a Building Official with the International Code Council preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Administration management and oversight of similar municipal departments.
• Applicable laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes pertaining to planning and zoning, permitting, inspections and code enforcement.
• Principles and techniques of budget development and administration.
• Principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management.
• Budget projection, development, management and justification practices and procedures.
• Plan, prioritize, assign and direct the work of personnel.
• Develop and administer sound departmental policies.
• Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and policies.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
• Skill in effective oral and written communication.
• Skill in conducting inspections and investigations and enforcing building codes and regulations.
• Skill in responding to and managing emergencies and incidents.
• Skill in planning, developing and implementing department procedures and objectives.
