Description
This position inspects building sites for proper health and safety precautions, inspects materials used and the construction of structures to make sure the building code is being complied with. Insures compliance through the use of standard procedures as outlined by the City Code of Ordinances. See Minimum Qualifications for salary description.
Essential Functions

Must have an understanding of City Policy and Procedures.
Must possess organizational skills; administrative skills, including the ability to supervise
and work with employees, other departments, outside organizations, and the public;
communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in
writing.
Must be able to operate a personal computer; specifically Windows XP, Microsoft Word,
Excel, Access, and H.T.E.; and any related office and field equipment necessary to
perform and manage building inspections.
Must be familiar with municipal government operations, City policies, procedures and
ordinances, as well as sound building principals.
Must promote excellent customer service among employees, customers, citizens, and businesses in all aspects of service delivery.
Must possess the ability to work with the public in a respectful and efficient manner.
Must possess the ability to perform mathematical operations involving basic algebraic and
geometric principles, formulas, and calculations.
Must possess the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce and/or assess data and/or information
using established criteria.
Must have strong leadership skills in addition to possessing solid supervisory and management skills and the ability to evaluate and innovate processes.
Must be approachable by citizens, businesses and employees with an extraordinary ability to get along with and interact with others.
Must be an effective team member and team leader who is able to foster positive, trusting, relationships with others in the City organization and in the community.
Must have effective written and oral communicator with an ability to influence and educate others.
Must deal with difficult and stressful situations while maintaining control over his/her emotions.
Must be a good listener and problem solver who thinks creatively.
Must possess excellent planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
Must act with a track record of absolute integrity and honesty in professional and personal matters.
Must be able to sit 6 hours daily; walk 1 hour daily; bend, stoop, twist, turn, climb,
crouch, crawl, run, stand, kneel, and balance up to 1 hour daily.

Persons under eighteen (18) years of age may be employed in temporary or regular part-time positions, if they furnish the City with a minor's release (Form 2-2) and are approved by the City Manager.
No person under eighteen (18) years of age will be employed in any position requiring the operation of a City motorized vehicle.
Essential Functions
- Supervises inspectors and makes inspections of buildings in the process of construction to
- determine compliance with City Codes and Ordinances.
- Checks and reviews plans for interpretation of compliance with City Codes.
- Answers questions that arise from architects, engineers, contractors, owners, and general
- public concerning City Codes and Ordinances.
- Makes presentations and attends meetings.
- Any other duties as may be assigned.
